My 140 Days of Privilege

king of my heart

Bible Verse:

“You only have I chosen of all the families of the earth; therefore, I will punish you for all your sins.”  Amos 3:2

Song:  King of My Heart – Steffany Gretzinger, Jeremy Riddle, & Christine Rhee

clicking the above song title, you will be directed to a video of our worship song for today.  Hope you enjoy this song selected specifically to go along with our devotion!

God had chosen the people of Israel to be the people who would show the world God.  He chooses them for no reason other than He wanted to.  They had to do nothing to be given this privilege.

Unfortunately, they blew it!  Amos 3 goes on with 7 rhetorical questions such as “Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?”  “Does a lion roar in the thicket when it has no prey?” “Does a bird swoop down to a trap on the ground when no bait is there?” (Amos 3: 3-6) Amos is making it clear that what is about to happen is because of their past and current behavior.  The action that God is about to take (swoop down) is because they have baited the trap with sin that they refused to turn from when warned.

Our God is merciful, He has shown them their sin and warned them of what will happen if they do not turn back to Him.  Verse 7 says “Surely the Sovereign Lord does nothing without revealing His plan.”

In our verse for today it says that because they had been given this underserved privilege and squandered it, more so that they would be punished.

To be given a privilege means to be given a benefit to be enjoyed that is beyond the advantages of most, a special right or exemption granted by a person in authority.

God recently gave me a privilege, He gave me the gift of time.  We often say that we all have the same 24 hours in our day, meaning that none of get’s more time, but God’s economy is different than ours.  I was given the gift of time.   God cleared my days of obligations and gave me 140 days to do whatever I wanted to do.  During these 140 days our family did not lose ANY of our income, these were days given to me free and clear.

I knew that this was a privilege granted to me by God, that it was a benefit to be enjoyed that was beyond the advantages of most, a special right granted by a person in authority, the highest authority.

In the 140 days of privilege that God gave to me, I knew that I wanted to honor Him, to make sure I lived these days with intention and purpose.  I did not want to squander my rights!

I share this with you not to brag on myself, but to show you God, to share His economy, to bring glory to the highest authority in my life.

In those 140 days I accomplished a lot!  I began writing devotions, I started a blog, I went back to school and even finished my first class in a Master’s program!  I took several classes at my library on how to become a better writer and I also have become a member of the Proverbs 31 writing program. I also began working with the STOP Human Trafficking  ministry at a local church, but most important of all of this, I had really, really, sweet time with God in word and prayer (see my devotion on Soul Retreat).

Let us come before our God on bended knee’s, with a heart of humility and make sure we are not squandering our privilege!

We are a nation of privilege and we are One Nation Under God, let us continue to honor, worship and submit to the Authority who has given us such privilege!

Heavenly Father, thank you for my 140 days of privilege.  I know that with your economy that will create a wealth of great worth that will last for generations to come.  I am honored to have received this privilege and give You praise and honor for all of this, that You would be known amongst all the land.  Amen
