If you were asked today to finish this sentence “My purpose in life is……” what would you say?
I was recently challenged to write a 6 Word Memoir. The challenge is this: Write your life story in just 6 words. This is a memoir, so it must be true, and it must be about you. It can be a description of your past, of your future, of your emotional state or it can be your life statement.
The most famous 6-word memoir was written by Ernest Hemingway: “For sale. Baby shoes, never worn.” Think about it, a story in just 6 words, no further explanation required.
As a Psychology junkie, I love taking personality test and studying the different personalities. But at the core of that is my desire to connect with the world on multiple levels and to know that I have a valuable place in this life and a purpose that is bigger than myself.
The Bible talks often about our purpose and it is important that we realize the truth about God’s purpose for our lives. Satan will try to lie to us and make us believe that we are not significant, that we do not matter, and that God can’t use us.
Here are some verses, along with our verse for today, that you can meditate on and commit to your heart. When you feel like you have lost your purpose or hear the lies of Satan trying to steal your worth and value…. remember these words.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” Proverbs 19:21
“The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out.” Proverbs 20:5
“But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.” Psalm 33:11
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28
Now that you have been inspired by the word of God, I challenge you to write your 6-word Memoir. You can give it a couple of try’s and see what sticks. Here are two of mine that I have been working on:
