What inspired God to create the heavens and the earth? What inspired Him to make the leaves change colors? How was He inspired to create a whole other world and put it under water?
I was recently asked where I get the inspiration for my blog and my blog post. First answer to come to mind was of course to give credit to God for my inspiration, and rightly so. But as I think about inspiration, it is more than just occasional shots of inspiration that fly down from heaven, into my mind and onto the paper.
So, where do my thoughts and inspiration come from? Are inspired thoughts just up there hovering around waiting for me to ask for one? Are they withheld from me if I negate the process of prayer?
Perhaps the inspiration is never ending, having been created while I was in my mother’s womb. We know that God has given each of us unique gifts for the benefit of the Body of Christ. What if the inspiration is downloaded into us along with the gift and we always have full access to it.
God is in the inspiration that began in us at birth, that wove itself into the fiber of our being, was present in every minutia detail of our history and lives within us always. In other words, we live inspired lives with full access to the bounty of blessings, far and wide.
“Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the council of elders laid their hands on you. Practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress.” 1 Timothy 4:14-15
As a piece of practical advice for easier access to those “inspired” moments of life, we can take the advice of Timothy and pay attention to our gifts. We are to use our gifts, fine tune our gifts, immerse ourselves in our gifts, so that all may see our progress and so that others may benefit from them.
“If we considered that Divine power is at work in us at every moment, we might actually own our God-given power to create wonder and change the world.” – Vinita Hampton Wright
So, let’s take our holy inspired thoughts, that are blessed beyond what our mere mortal brains can fathom and utilize the direct access to God, the Father of inspiration, to change the world.
Heavenly Father, let us not waste our access to unlimited and unreserved inspiration. We praise You that You have breathed into our very being the inspiration to make a difference in this world. Holy are You God of our creation. Deep calls out to deep as we imagine the power you have given us. May you always see progress in my gifts. Amen
